Timeline - Video editing Software
A timeline is shown below. Timelines look similar in all software even audio software.
Time is marked against your video clip in the timeline window after you have imported or layed your video on the timeline. Usually there is some kind of marker you can drag along the timeline and a monitor box where you can preview the video.
Above you can see the marker is red. Dragging it along the timeline changes the point in time you view. You can also zoom in and out of the time line.
You can chop up your footage and put it in a different order to make your movie more interesting.
