Camcorders are getting so good these days and the picture quality is astounding and continually changing. For a long time video was recorded to the computer in DV, Digital Video, format but now it seems there are loads of different types of video formats these days. Often the computers cannot adapt fast enough and you are unable to get the video from you camcorder onto the computer.

How do I connect my camcorder to the computer and transfer the video?

The answer to this question is usually quite simple. One of the most important things to note is the most common type of cables used in transferring video are USB cables. It used to be Firewire and most computers have ports for both although Firewire seems to be disappearing.

If your camcorder came with some software you should install it. Many times these software's (often drivers) are needed for changing a special type of format your camcorder records. Install everything on the CD that came with your camcorder in order to ensure your computer can recognize it and communicate with it.
They can also have good editing programs to help you get started in movie making.
