The larger end goes to the computer. Sometimes both ends need to be small as the input port in some laptops in also small. Make sure you have a little check before you buy. These things rarely come with a video camera.

Most of the new HD camcorders in the past few years use USB 2. Historically FireWire cables were the only way to import video from digital cameras but that is no longer the case. Almost all new consumer
HD video cameras now use USB 2.0 making life easier for everyone however many video cameras still use Firewire and many new ones still only have this option to transfer video to your computer.

When describing the cables you need I said newer computers used USB but I meant newer camcorders.
