HDV High Definition Video - Video Editing

HDV was introduced by JVC when they took out a high definition HD camera called JY-HD10 which records and compressed high quality MPEG-2 on a mini DV tape

How much space does HDV take up on the hard drive? A lot! Too much it seems.

Due to the size of High Definition video editing is harder as this is taxing on powerful computers with loads of space. One of the most common formats, HDV, uses highly compressed MPEG-2 on a mini DV tape. Most modern camcorders use this format.

Panasonic D5-HD format uses 720/60p, 1080/24p, 1080/60i, and even 1080/30p

Panasonic DVCPRO-HD or D7-HD uses 720/60p and 1080/60i

Sony HDCAM format supports 1080 resolutions at frame rates of 24p, 25p, 50i, and 60i
